DeSoto Fire District 8

Attention Residence of Desoto Fire District 8 only. Desoto Fire District 8 is temporarily lifting the burn ban in the fire district effective as of 3/25/2020. This ban was put in place by the State Fire Marshal's Office to help free up firefighter's resources throughout the state of Louisiana. Even though as of right now, Desoto Parish is seeing COVID-19 cases increase, there is not at this time a burden on the responders in DFD8 response area. If the burden does present itself due to medical responses or personnel issues related to COVID-19 outbreak, we may have to reissue the ban. We realise that at a time where everyone is asked to stay home, this was a burden to residence that wanted or needed to burn piles for yard cleanup etc. You still have to call in a burn permit to the Desoto Parish Burn Permit Line at 1-855-600-2876 and is free of charge. This is to help fire districts track locations of open fires and any potential emergencies. As always, please be safe while burning as well as monitor the fire at all times to keep fires from getting out of control. Do not use gasoline to start any fires, this is extremely dangerous! Keep a source of water close to extinguish any unwanted fires and call 911 as soon as you realise the fire is beyond your control! Remember, this is for the residence of Desoto Fire District #8 only at this time! We will update any changes as necessary. Stay Safe! ... See MoreSee Less

COVID-19 UPDATE: DFD 8 wants to assure the public that all emergency services will continue throughout the fire district and parish as usual even during the statewide shelter in place. Responders all over DeSoto Parish and the U.S. are on the front lines planning, preparing and responding to any and all emergencies that arise. Also, you will see no changes in our response. First responder's along with all health care workers across the country are facing something we haven't really dealt with before. The public can help us a lot by remaining calm, not get out unless necessary and listen to the directions of the State and CDC. Please understand that the plan in place is to prevent a large spread of the virus and help prevent a overrun of patients in the hospitals, not to make life any more difficult. The awesome residence of Desoto Parish can do this! We all know this is a difficult situation and has taken everyone including our first responder's and families out of their routines. But out here on the front lines we can all tell you it's necessary to fight the spread of the virus so we can get back to our routines as soon as possible. Again to remind everyone, our office and fire stations will be closed to visitors. If you need to contact us, please call 318-872-2453 or message us on Facebook. For emergencies call 911. We will continue to update as needed. We are all here to keep you safe 24/7 hours a day 365 days a year! Be safe and stay healthy!! ... See MoreSee Less

DFD 8 would like to pass on a Community Safety Message as we continue to fight the spread of the COVID-19 Virus. Cleaning supplies for cleaning and disinfecting can be a valuable tool to help disinfect your home or office from many things including the spread of the COVID Virus. As this is a good thing, some caution needs to be taken in order to keep from creating a dangerous science experiment in chemistry. Below is a small chart of basic cleaning supplies found in any store and most homes. There are many variations in dangerous chemical reactions you can make with 100's of different cleaners you find in stores. Mixing any chemical that is not intended to be mixed could create a dangerous or even fatal incident. As you use cleaning supplies, be sure your using the chemicals as directed and not creating a dangerous situation for you or others. Always use proper personal protective equipment like gloves and goggles and make sure you have good ventilation in the room your cleaning. If you feel dizzy or weak, find fresh air immediately. If symptoms don't improve call 911! For more detailed information, search online for the do's and don'ts of using cleaning supplies. Disinfecting can go a long way in protecting you and your family, but being safe while cleaning is really important! Your safety is our #1 priority! Stay Safe and Healthy! ... See MoreSee Less
